I find myself not enjoying James's short stories like I enjoyed the short stories we've read by Hurston, Hemmingway, etc. (the one's we've read in the past). He's too wordy and long winded for me. I feel like his syntax and diction are examples of what we have been taught not to do; James, for the most part, does not vary the length of his sentances, uses big, florished words when smaller, more concise ones would do. I find myself toiling, trying to decipher what the heck those sentaces mean/are referring to, and spending less time appreciating his stories and their meaning.

Maybe his writing style is just not appealing to me; or am I missing something?

How does everyone else feel? (just curious =))
