Absurdism and Symbolism
Re: Absurdism and Symbolism
Absurdism
-The main idea behind Absurdism is that it is pointless for humans to search for meaning in life, because this meaning will never be found by humans. This is not to say that there is no meaning, only that it is impossible for humans to find it.
- Absurdism is connected to both existentialism and nihilism, two other philosophies which deal with meaning in life and humans ability to discover it.
-Absurdism was most prominent after the despair and trauma of World War II, with authors and philosophers like Albert Camus.
Symbolism
-"Symbolism is the applied use of symbols: iconic representations that carry particular conventional meanings."-Wikipedia
-Symbolism began first in the visual arts and poetry, and it carries the idea that and image can stand in for something else, and convey a deeper meaning.
